Left For Dead By Pete Nelson: Book Review

Looking for an adventure? Adventee has an ultimate package of adventure eBooks, music and audiobooks. Pete Nelson’s Left for Dead is one of the amazing writings available at this library. For Unbroken fans, Left for Dead is a fascinating story of a young boy who got inspired by the movie Jaws and decided to throw light on survivors and families of the USS Indianapolis sinking during World War II.

On July 30, 1945, after the midnight, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by the submarine of Japan. In this wartime loss of life, over 1000 men found themselves into shark-infested waters, 250 miles away from the closest land. Some were injured, some without life jackets and some struggled to stay floating as they waited for rescue, but the US Navy had no idea that they were missing. A lot of questions arise in readers’ mind - How an important ship as the USS Indianapolis been unescorted and Captain McVay was not even notified? Why was Captain court-martialed when he was not accountable for what happened?

Nelson tells two tales here: the tale of Hunter Scott, an eleven year boy doing his school project and got interested in the USS Indianapolis after watching Jaws movie and the war time tale of Indianapolis. Amazed, Hunter chose this topic for his history project and found out that Captain and his officers were hero, not negligent and people should know this. This interesting historical fiction is likely to appeal readers who love history and a great story.
