Elijah Wood on Acting

While many will always and forever remember him for his portrayal of Frodo in the Lord of The Rings trilogy, Elijah Wood is an old hand when it comes to acting, and has held a variety of roles throughout his career. Wood made his film debut at the tender young age of 8 with a small part in the 1989 smash hit Back to the Future Part II. The roles kept coming from there, right up until his breakthrough role in 2001’s The Fellowship of The Rings.

Back in 2017, Empire decided to celebrate the 15th anniversary of The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring by having its stars interview each other. When it came to Elijah Wood, it was up to John Rhys-Davies to ask the questions. When Rhys-Davies asked Wood about acting, and what advice he’d give to young aspiring actors, here’s what Wood had to say:

“I say that integrity is of the utmost importance and that one should love the craft and have no other reasons beyond that love and passion to invest their time. Also, that it takes hard work and perseverance and that, ultimately, living life outside of the work will push one’s growth and experience to be better actors. Work with friends, create with like-minded people. Don’t wait for the opportunities to come to you. Create your own.”
